Life & Work onboard

Discover what to expect when living and working onboard, including working conditions, crew accommodation, onboard facilities, daily life, and more.

Working Onboard Princess Cruises

Working onboard a cruise ship is a unique experience that combines hard work, teamwork, and personal growth. Every teammate plays an important role in delivering unforgettable vacations to our guests and supporting fellow crew members. You will work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment where flexibility, professionalism, and a positive attitude are essential. Depending on your position, working hours may be up to 13 hours per day. Contract lengths vary by role and contract type, ranging from approximately four months for some senior officer positions to six, eight, or even nine months for many shipboard roles. Life at sea requires commitment, adaptability, and resilience, particularly during busy operational periods. At the same time, working onboard offers the opportunity to develop valuable skills, build lifelong friendships, and gain international experience while visiting destinations around the world.

Your Cabin, your home away from home

During your assignment, your cabin will become your personal living space, a place to rest, recharge, and prepare for each working day. While onboard accommodations are comfortable and functional, shipboard living is very different from life ashore and requires flexibility, organization, and respect for those around you.

Living in a Unique Environment
Life onboard is unlike any other living experience. Ships are designed to maximize space for both guests and teammates, which means that crew accommodations are generally compact and efficient. You may find that your cabin is smaller than what you are accustomed to at home. Storage space is limited, and good organization is essential to keeping your living environment comfortable and functional.
For many new teammates, adapting to cabin life is one of the biggest adjustments during the first few weeks onboard. Most quickly develop routines and discover practical ways to make their cabin feel like home.

Crew Life beyond work

Living onboard is a unique experience that combines work, community, and personal growth. While your professional responsibilities are an important part of life at sea, you'll also have access to a variety of crew facilities designed to help you relax, stay active, connect with family and friends, and enjoy your free time.

Every ship offers dedicated crew areas where teammates can unwind, socialize, and recharge between shifts.

Career Growth & Advancement

At Princess Cruises, we are committed to helping our teammates build meaningful and rewarding careers at sea. Through our Hotel Promotion Policy, we provide a transparent and structured pathway for career progression within your department, recognizing individuals who consistently demonstrate strong performance, professionalism, leadership potential, and readiness for greater responsibility. Promotion opportunities are considered based on a combination of performance evaluations, promotion recommendations, demonstrated readiness, operational requirements, and vacancy availability. While advancement is never automatic, teammates who consistently excel in their current role and embrace development opportunities may be considered for future promotions. Our goal is to help you grow your skills, expand your experience, and achieve your long-term career aspirations with Princess Cruises.
