Tattoo Policy

Our Tattoo Policy ensures a consistent, professional, and guest‑focused image across all vessels. All employees must maintain a clean, polished, and professional appearance at all times while on duty.

Tattoo Policy

Effective: April 2026

Princess Cruises recognizes that personal appearance is an important element of self-expression, and though we strive not to control or dictate teammates appearance whilst off duty, the Company expects all teammates to exercise appropriate judgment. Appearance both within the workplace and out should be in keeping with a respectful environment and appropriateness to our guest demographic.

In keeping with this approach, one small discreet tattoo (no larger than 5cm x 5cm) either behind the ear, and/or on each limb may be acceptable. These are subject to the discretion of the relevant onboard Head of Department and Human Resources Officer.

Multiple visible tattoos or "sleeved" tattoos are not permitted and must be fully covered at all times while on duty, regardless of location on the body. Other tattoos on the face, neck, or hands are not permitted at any time. Tattoos that are inflammatory in a political, cultural, or socio-cultural way, or contain obscene words, phrases, or picture tattoos are not permitted nor can they contain nudity, profanity, ethnic, racial, or religious
slurs, or sexual innuendos.

Teammates are not permitted to have tattoos applied or modified whilst on assignment, and any teammate found doing so will be subject to disciplinary action. Doing so risks infections and can cause health issues which might impede their ability to perform their duties as assigned. Any teammate found to do so will be subject to disciplinary action.

All individuals employed by Princess Cruise Lines must declare all potentially visible tattoos based on the uniforms that they may wear based on their current rank for all seasons/itineraries. This may include the wearing of shorts and short sleeve shirts.

Tattoos on arms or legs must be covered using one of the following methods:
  • Uniform Options: The appropriate uniform options per the Uniform Policy. Officers and Petty Officers may wear long-sleeved uniform shirts to ensure tattoos are not visible.
  • Sleeve Covers: Neutral tone (black or white) or matching teammates' own skin color sleeves may be worn solely for the purpose of covering tattoos. Tattoo sleeves should not display any patterns, or designs.
  • Company provided sleeves will be available for purchase through the Uniform Stores onboard.
  • Teammates may wear their own sleeves, provided they align with the tattoo policy's color requirements and maintain a professional look.
All employees must ensure that any non-discrete visible tattoos exceeding 5x5 cm or falling outside company guidelines are completely covered while on duty or in guest areas. This includes multiple visible tattoos and sleeve tattoos.
Approved coverage options include:
  • Appropriate uniform options (e.g., long‑sleeve uniforms where available and in line with Departmental Uniform policy).
  • Tattoo sleeve covers in neutral tone (black or white) or matching teammates’ own skin color.
Sleeve covers must be clean, plain, professional in appearance, and worn solely to cover tattoos.

Why This Matters
This update is guided by four key principles:
  • Brand Standards – Maintaining a polished, professional appearance
  • Guest Sensitivities – Supporting a respectful, inclusive guest environment
  • Uniform Consistency – Ensuring a clean, cohesive look across the fleet
  • Industry Alignment – Aligning with Carnival Corporation standards while preserving Princess brand nuances
What You Need to Know
  • Coverage Availability: Approved options are now available for purchase through the Uniform Stores onboard for the price of $6 for a pair and will follow the same standard process used for the purchase of any uniform pieces. The cost of sleeve covers are subject to change. Teammates may also source their own if they are compliant.
  • Responsibility: Tattoos are a personal choice; teammates are responsible for obtaining appropriate coverage.
  • Compliance: Supervisors and Managers will monitor, and address non‑compliance as needed.
