What type of talents are we looking to recruit?
The primary consideration in the recruitment and employment of staff is to recruit people with the highest standards of efficiency, technical competence and integrity. Princess Cruises operates in a multinational environment and potential employees must be able to cope with cultural differences and different approaches to problem solving and decision making. In addition to a balanced personality and good communication skills, you should enjoy cultural diversity. Previous experience in a cross-cultural working environment is an asset for all positions, as is fluency in English.
What are the standard requirements for shipboard employment?
While specific position requirements depend on the job, there are some essential requirements that all teammates must meet to work onboard:
- Be 21 years of age or older (Deck and Technical Cadets are exempted).
- Obtain a clear criminal background check.
- Hold a valid passport.
- Obtain a full validity US C1/D visa (if you are not a Canadian or US citizen/resident)
- Obtain a valid Princess-specific Medical Certificate.
- Meet the English fluency requirements relevant to the job.
- Holding a positive reference check.
- Some positions (mostly Deck and Technical Officers and Petty Officers) are required to be in possession of a Seaman’s Book and relevant Certification. This is, in general, not required for any other Hotel positions, except for the STCW Security Awareness which is required for all ranks.
If I am selected, how long does it usually take to get on board?
The placement of new hires depends on several factors, such as the status of the relevant documentation and operational needs. Depending on the specific circumstances, it may take up to 4 or 5 months to prepare the relevant documentation and a further 1 to 2 months to obtain an assignment.
If I am selected, am I expected to receive a formal job offer?
Yes, as the final stage of the selection process, a formal job offer is usually made to successful candidates. As the job offer does not constitute a contract of employment, we strongly recommend that you do not resign from any current employment until the final stage of the onboarding process, when all required documentation has been received and verified.
How long will I be on board and what will my working hours be?
Contract lengths vary by position but range between three and nine months. After each assignment, you will receive approximately two months of vacation before your next assignment. Your daily work schedule while onboard is in accordance with ILO Convention guidelines and will depend on your position, but you must expect to work seven days a week and anywhere between 10-13 hours per day.

There are three dedicated cafeterias (referred to as the Crew Mess, Staff Mess, and Officers Mess) with a variety of menu items from different regions of the world. Depending on the position’s entitlements, on some ships, bathrooms are shared by a number of cabins.
